Steph teaches singing, piano and musicianship in Toorak and surrounding areas of Melbourne, Australia. The Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University has given Steph a breadth of knowledge in the specialised area of contemporary vocal pedagogy through studying her Master of Music Studies.
She teaches all the styles she performs: pop, rock, folk, rnb and musical theatre (including the classical spinoff ‘legit’ style and the more speech-based ‘belt’ style). Student-centred lessons that are tailored to their individual needs and aspirations form the core of her teaching philosophy, relying on principles of motor learning, anatomically-informed performance technique and current research.
Singing lessons vary, but generally involve warm-ups, preparing the voice with active body alignment and breathing strategies, technical vocal exercises and performance practice of songs chosen collaboratively. Piano sheet music-reading, chord reading, improvisation and accompaniment can be included if desired.
Musicianship and piano lessons can be for leisure, to help expand the skills of working musicians, or train beginners through to advanced levels through exam (AMEB or AGMED) and technical work; Steph will devise lessons that suit your goals.
Lessons are available in-person and via Skype.
Steph is a current sessional voice tutor at Monash University and vocal teacher at Siena College, Camberwell in addition to running her private studio. She is an active member of ANATS, subscriber to the Journal of Singing and proactively stays up-to-date with current voice research. Please contact me to arrange a no-obligations trial session.
